The Ultimate Attainment

The past is already past.

Don’t try to regain it.

The present does not stay.

Don’t try to touch it.

From moment to moment.

The future has not come;

Don’t think about it

Beforehand.

Whatever comes to the eye,

Leave it be.

There are no commandments

To be kept;

There’s no filth to be cleansed.

With empty mind really

Penetrated, the dharmas

Have no life.

When you can be like this,

You’ve completed

The ultimate attainment.

  1. Now all we have to do is get rid of all these damn words. 😛

  2. I love this Angela-especially “There is no filth to be cleansed with an empty mind….” Very much in line with how I have been guided to think less! Thank you. -Julie

  3. Wonderful post Angela… just accepting what is, and resisting the need to ‘fix’ what we perceive as broken. Thank you for sharing this today!! ~ Much Love, Robyn

    • This kind of wisdom runs so counter to the Western way of being–I personally find that I need a LOT of reminding. I really love the simple language offered by the great sages, who remind us how to just let go of ideas and beliefs that do not serve us well. Blessings to you, Robyn. And, thanks for reading!!

  4. Thank you….don’t we just have to keep going back and reminding ourselves of this wisdom? I’m going to read this every morning….

  5. Great reminder. Thanks for posting!

  6. As the popular quote – “The past is history, the future is a mystery, but today is a gift—that’s why they call it ‘the present’”. Thanks for inspiring.
